Atta & The Three Matchas: Different Experiences in Every Cup

Hello everyone, Atta here, writing to you from our little café in Melbourne.

These days many people come through our doors asking for matcha. It has become very popular here, which we’re very happy to see. Kai and I are always looking out and seeing people wandering about the streets of Melbourne with a cup in hand, yet after visiting many of the different cafes around, we realised that most offer only one type.

At Attakai Carlton and Garden we proudly offer three different varieties. Each one brings its own character and feeling to your day, so you can choose the experience that suits you.

Life is about having new experiences. After all, that is part of why Kai and I moved from Antarctica to Melbourne, in search of new warmth and new horizons. Warmth can come in many forms, and so does matcha. We thought, why not bring a wide variety of different experiences to the people of Melbourne?

Why People Love Matcha in Melbourne

Matcha has won so many hearts because it offers something special. It gives gentle, steady energy without the sudden rush or jitters that some drinks bring. Many of our customers tell me they feel clear and focused after a cup, and despite that, the experience of drinking it is a very calming one. It is nourishing, rich in natural goodness, and simply feels good to drink. In a busy world, that quiet comfort is something people treasure, and so do penguins. (づ ՞ਊ ՞ )づ

Our Three Matchas

Seiran: Shizuoka Matcha

Seiran is bright and full bodied with a rounded finish that is very popular with those that enjoy milky drinks. It has a fresh, lively character that feels uplifting. This is the one many people enjoy as a matcha latte because its balanced flavour blends beautifully with milk. It brings a gentle cheerfulness to your morning or afternoon.

Tsuki Suiryō: Ceremonial Grade Uji Matcha

Tsuki Suiryō is our ceremonial grade Uji matcha. It is rich in umami, smooth, and has a gentle sweetness. This one feels deep and comforting, and we find that many guests like to enjoy it straight or with just a little milk so they can taste all the subtle layers.

Hinode: Stone Milled Ceremonial Grade Uji Matcha

Hinode is bold and nutty with a clean finish, making it a very unique experience for those that are interested in different matchas. It has a stronger presence and a satisfying depth, so if you enjoy the earthiness of traditional teas, you’re sure to love it. This matcha is wonderful when you want something with a bit more character. It stands up well in both hot and iced drinks and leaves a pleasant, lasting impression.

Best Times and Moments to Enjoy Matcha

Matcha is wonderfully versatile, which means you can drink it at any time of day in any place. ⸂⸂⸜(രᴗര๑)⸝⸃⸃

It is lovely first thing in the morning when you want steady energy to start the day. It is perfect mid-afternoon when you need a gentle lift without feeling wired. On cooler days a warm matcha latte feels especially comforting, while the iced version is refreshing when the Melbourne sun is out in full force.

It’s one of those ways that people find their own little rituals. Whether you’re a hard-working person or a very busy penguin, it’s important to have moments in your day that are truly yours, and matcha is a lovely way to sit, relax, contemplate, and unwind when you get some time away from the world.

Matcha as a Friend & Companion

There is something special about sipping matcha while doing things you love. It pairs beautifully with creative moments like drawing or painting; its calm focus helps the mind settle.

It is equally wonderful when speaking with friends. The gentle warmth in your hands makes conversation feel even more relaxed and heartfelt.

Reading becomes more immersive with a cup of matcha beside you. I’ve always found that the smooth flavour seems to deepen the enjoyment of a good book.

And for studying or working, many people find that the matchas on our menu help them stay alert and clear-headed for longer periods without the restlessness that stronger drinks can bring.

Finding Your Favourite

Each of our Melbourne matchas offers something different. Some days you may want the bright, rounded warmth of Seiran. Other days the deep, smooth comfort of Tsuki Suiryō feels just right. And when you are looking for something bolder, Hinode brings that satisfying nutty note.

We prepare all three with care at both our Carlton and Collins Street locations. Whether you sit down for a proper latte in Carlton or grab one quickly from our window on Collins Street, we hope you will try them and discover which one speaks to you.

Life is richer when we try new things. A different matcha can turn an ordinary moment into something special. Come and see us soon. We would be happy to help you choose the one that feels right for today.

With steady flippers and a warm cup ready,

~Atta ( ˘▽˘)っ♨
